The Prodigal Son Touches Parents’ Hearts

In a recent meeting organized by the Juvenile Justice System in Peru, 80 dads showed up, each carrying really tough stories. Many of them are going through a complicated reality: their kids are facing processes within the juvenile justice system in Peru. As part of the support spaces offered by the Judicial Power, these families come together to listen to talks that help them reflect, find new parenting tools, and strengthen their role as parents.

A few days ago, on March 6, 2026, Jessica Calderón, director of the DBS LATAM program at Reflejo, was invited to share a message with them. Her reflection centered on the parable of the prodigal son, a story that speaks deeply about a father’s love, forgiveness, and the possibility of restoring family relationships even after painful moments of brokenness.

Through this story, parents were invited to reflect on love, values, and raising their children, remembering that there is always an opportunity to rebuild and heal relationships within the family.

This kind of reflection follows the DBS (Discovery Bible Study) approach, a method that encourages people to engage directly with Bible stories, reflect on their meaning, and discover their lessons for themselves—trusting that the Holy Spirit guides each person toward truth.

Even though many of the parents did not identify as believers, the message touched their hearts. By the end of the talk, 14 parents chose to take a step closer to Jesus, beginning a journey of faith and hope for their families.

In Peru, minors under 18 who commit offenses are handled within a separate juvenile justice system, which focuses mainly on rehabilitation and reintegration into society. In this process, the involvement and support of families play a key role in helping young people find a new path forward.

At Reflejo, we thank God for this opportunity and are grateful to the Judiciary for opening spaces like this—places where hope, restoration, and faith can reach families going through difficult times. We believe that when love, values, and faith begin to transform the hearts of parents, new possibilities for change open up for the next generation as well.

We invite you to join us in praying for these parents and for the restoration of their families—that God would continue working in their hearts and open new paths of hope for them and their children. 🙏
