A New Chapter in Global Missions

For generations, global missions were largely defined by workers sent from North America and Europe. Today, that reality is changing.

Latin America is no longer primarily a mission field—it has become a mission force. Thousands of believers across Central and South America are stepping into God’s global mission, responding to the same call that once brought the gospel to their own nations.

At Reflejo, we believe this shift is not incidental. It is part of what God is doing right now. We exist to help Latin American and Latino believers step into that calling.

Why Latin American Missionaries Matter

The Center of Christianity Has Shifted

Today, the majority of Christians live outside of the West. Yet historically, most missionaries have still been sent from North America and Europe. This creates a gap and also an opportunity.

The Great Commission was never meant to be carried by one region alone. The global Church is called to send from every culture to every culture. Latin American missionaries are essential to that future.

Unique Cultural Positioning

Latin American missionaries often carry unique advantages in cross-cultural ministry. In many parts of the world, especially in sensitive or hard-to-reach regions, they are received differently from Westerners.

They are often less associated with political power or historical baggage, and this creates openness. In some places where Westerners cannot go or are not welcome, Latin Americans can enter, stay, and build meaningful relationships.

This is not just strategic. It is deeply relational and missionally significant.

Cultural Proximity to the Unreached

Latin American culture often shares important similarities with many unreached regions around the world. These include strong family systems, relational ways of communicating, and lived experiences of faith, struggle, and resilience.

Because of this, Latin American missionaries are often able to connect more naturally, build trust more quickly, and communicate the gospel in ways that resonate deeply.

A Growing Mission Movement

Across Latin America, more believers are sensing a call to go. Churches are awakening to their role in global missions, and the number of missionaries being sent is growing.

However, there are still major gaps. Many who feel called lack access to training, support, and long-term care. Without these, missionaries may go but struggle to remain healthy and fruitful over time.

The Challenge: Calling Without Pathways

Many Latin American believers are ready to respond to God’s call, but they do not always have clear pathways to do so.

Historically, missionaries from Latin America have often faced limited training, weak support systems, and insufficient care structures. As a result, many have gone to the field but have not been able to thrive long-term.

At Reflejo, we exist to change that reality.

How Reflejo Sends Latin American Missionaries

Reflejo is a missions agency by Latinos, for Latinos, focused on catalyzing gospel movements among the unreached.

Our work is centered on three core commitments.

Mobilizing the Latin American Church

Missionary sending begins with the local church. We work to mobilize churches across Latin America to pray, give, and send.

We help believers understand that the Great Commission applies to them. Many discover for the first time that they are not only recipients of the gospel, but also participants in God’s global mission.

Equipping Missionaries to Thrive

Training is essential, but our goal goes beyond preparation. We equip missionaries with the tools they need not only to go, but to remain faithful and effective over time.

This includes intentional formation, mentorship, practical training, and spiritual development. We want missionaries who can serve with wisdom, resilience, and clarity of purpose.

Sustaining Through Member Care

The mission field can be difficult and isolating. Without proper care, even well-prepared missionaries can struggle.

Reflejo provides ongoing support through community, coaching, and holistic care. We are committed to the long-term health of every missionary we send, so they can endure and multiply their impact.

What This Looks Like in Real Life

The impact of Latin American missionaries is not theoretical. It is seen in transformed lives and relationships.

In one story, a Reflejo missionary built a relationship with a local family by helping a child learn to read and write. What began as practical help became a bridge to trust, friendship, and, eventually, the sharing of the gospel.

In another context, a missionary used creative expression to connect with people in a restricted environment. Through art and relationship, conversations opened that would not have happened otherwise.

These stories reflect a deeper truth. Latin American missionaries often enter places and build relationships in ways that others cannot.

Why This Matters Now

The future of global missions is not centered in one region. It is global, diverse, and interconnected.

Latin America has moved from receiving the gospel to actively participating in its spread among the nations. The Church in Latin America is stepping into a new role as a sender.

This moment matters. And the opportunity is significant.

How You Can Be Part of This

There are several ways to engage with what God is doing through Latin American missionaries.

You can pray for missionaries, for open doors, and for movements of the gospel among unreached peoples.

You can give to support training, sending, and long-term care.

You may also sense a call to go, taking steps toward preparing for and participating in global missions.

A Final Word

Not long ago, Latin America was widely seen as a mission field.

Today, it is becoming one of the most important missionary-sending regions in the world.

At Reflejo, we believe the same gospel that transformed Latin America is now being carried by Latin Americans to the ends of the earth.

And we are committed to helping that movement grow.
