Transforming Kid’s Lives Through Theater

In Comas, a rough area in Lima, Peru, kids aren't always allowed to be kids. Because of broken families, rampant drugs, and a lack of good role models, kids in Comas face a rough upbringing. When we visited a school one day and asked two 11-year-olds, what do you do for fun? The answer was: "breaking into houses and stealing stuff."

Because of this, Reflejo staff reached out to Miguel, and he felt encouraged to offer theater classes to kids using bible stories. Miguel was surprised by how excited the kids were about these classes, because normally they skip school, arrive late, or are overall apathetic. These kids had found a space where they can through acting, express healthy emotions in a safe environment and learn the Bible.

Because of this theater class, three DBS groups have been started, where kids who want to learn more are encouraged to invite their friends. Two kids have signed up to launch each group and are working together with volunteers to invite their family and friends to study the Bible with them.
