A Little Missionary Opening Big Doors in South Asia
Sara never imagined that some of the most meaningful conversations about faith would take place in the waiting room of a medical clinic.
For years, she and her husband, Ariel, had served among people who still had not heard the gospel. Like many cross‑cultural workers, they had learned to live with constant change, new languages, different cultures, and long processes of adaptation. Their son, little Ariel Jr., had grown up in the middle of that reality—traveling from a very young age, hearing several languages, and moving naturally between different contexts.
He seemed to adapt well to everything.
But over time, Sara began to notice that something wasn’t progressing as she expected. Ariel Jr. wasn’t developing language at the same pace as other children his age. Sometimes he struggled to understand simple instructions or express what he wanted to communicate.
The questions came long before the answers. Was it the result of so many cultural transitions? Of being exposed to several languages from such a young age? Or was there something more behind it?
After multiple evaluations and medical consultations, an unexpected diagnosis arrived: mild autism.
The news brought uncertainty, concern, and many questions about the future. As a mother, Sara thought about the challenges her son would face, the therapies he would need, and the financial impact this would have on their family. For a moment, she even considered leaving the mission field to focus entirely on Ariel Jr.
The costs were high—much higher than they had ever planned for. Alongside their ministry responsibilities, they now had to reorganize their lives around evaluations, treatments, and new routines. There were exhausting days and moments when the path ahead felt impossible to understand. But while Sara was trying to make sense of why God was allowing this situation, He was already at work.
The country where they currently live is one of the most difficult places in the world to speak openly about Jesus. Spiritual conversations rarely begin with religion. Trust is built slowly, step by step, through friendship and everyday life. And it was little Ariel Jr. who began opening doors.
His therapies and activities brought Sara into regular contact with other mothers facing similar struggles—women worried about their children, families searching for answers, people carrying fear and uncertainty about the future. What first seemed like a hardship began to turn into a bridge.
While waiting during therapy sessions, Sara started hearing stories—stories of tired mothers, worried mothers, mothers who often felt alone. Slowly, friendships formed and deeper conversations grew.
“How do you deal with this?” “What gives you hope?” “Where do you find the strength to keep going?” And then, naturally, Sara was able to share the reason for her hope. She spoke of a God who has a purpose for every life. Of a Father who makes no mistakes. Of a faith that remains steady even when circumstances feel uncertain.
One conversation led to another.
Some mothers began asking about her beliefs. Others wanted to know more about the Christian faith. Some shared their own struggles and allowed Sara to pray for them and for their children. Even in the midst of her own worries as a mother, God allowed her to walk alongside families who also needed hope.
Today, Sara recognizes that what she first saw as a painful trial has become an unexpected opportunity for the gospel. Arielito Jr. continues moving forward, step by step. There are still challenges. Therapies are expensive, and the journey requires patience, perseverance, and a great deal of faith. But the family has seen how God has used every appointment, every session, and every conversation to bring them close to people they might never have met otherwise.
What once looked like an obstacle has become an open door. Because God continues doing what He does best—turning difficulties into opportunities for His glory. And in a place where speaking about Jesus is not always easy, a small boy named Arielito Jr. is helping open doors that might never have opened any other way.
As this family continues sharing the gospel in a challenging context, we invite you to pray for them and for the medical needs of their son. May God keep opening paths and caring for them with His love.
